BB-brief…

BODYBALANCE™ 56 is in the building! Well – it has been for a while I guess.
This was the second and last weekend of quarterlies in the capital and also the second round of BODYBALANCE™56.
I had a great group of about 50 people that joined me this a m a z i n g spring day.
I’m happy – accept with one thing.

When I handed out the kits (dvd, music and choreo) I accidentally handed out my own.
So – someone is gonna have a kit without the CD and without the choreo notes. Which means – someone’s gonna be very angry.

I’m sorry!!
How ever I don’t think that person read my blog – but you never know.
I carried up the boxes from the front desk and put my stuff on top of it.. and I guess the kit just ended up lying there, and I thought it was one the new ones.
Well – apart from that I’m happy with the day, and I’m grateful for the meeting with all the lovely, talented and positive instructor.

Now – I’m on the most shaky train ever (car sick – or train sick then – as h***) almost in Malmö where I’ll be first flowing then shaking my ass.

A U-turn!

My friday jazz dance students at HoS definitely changed my day from not – to hot[ter]!
Thank you for making my moves so beautiful – and thank you for your willingness of working with quality above quantity.
I bounced out from the studio on happy feet and with a happy mind.

The past hours I’ve spent going over – and polishing – the ed sessions for the BODYBALANCE™ and BODYJAM®  quarterlies this weekend.
Stockholm tomorrow and Malmö sunday.
I’ve had some assistant that left her footprint on the work – literally! 🙂

A pretty exhausting work apparently…

Can’t wait for some saturday flow tomorrow with the Stockholm-area-crew.

Feedback or not?!

To my fellow instructors & teachers!
Just out of curiosity – what approach do you go for when you attend a class for a friend and/or a co-worker?

Are you the kind of person that feel the need of giving them a bit of feedback after the class? And if you do that – what is your main purpose by doing that?
Or, do you say anything at all?
Are you the smiley and outgoing person during the class – or do you go inside your bubble to focus on your own training only?

I’d never give feedback to a friend or a co-worker if I just attend a class for my own sake.

I’d do it if they’ve specifically asked me to come to the class in my role as a Les Mills-trainer or dance teacher for example – but that’s another story.
Not if I go on my initiative.

IfI’m thinking – I’m there to take class for someone that doesn’t teach like me – or do my choreo, and if I take a class for my own fun it’s not my job to find things that they can do better.. or look for things to pick at, ‘just cause’.
That’s just not how I roll – in any situation.
In that case – if they do ask me spontaniously after, I tend to focus on the positive things that made the class good (in my eyes)

But like I always say – we’re all different, and I’d be happy to hear how you roll.

Quarterly Times…

Yeah – it’ s those times again.
The first round of 2012, which means new choreos to all instructors who teaches pre-choreographed classes.

I’m holding qw’s in BODYJAM® and BODYBALANCE™ in Malmö and Stockholm the upcoming weekend. I’ve presented both classes before and feel pretty comfortable with them by now.

And yesterday, I taught the new core choreo at SATS for the first time.
As I’ve wrote earlier; I think the SATS core concept is ok (otherwise I wouldn’t teach it, obviously) especially when it comes to the exercises.
Also, it’s easy to learn and easy to teach.

How ever, these days – I believe the participants (the mainstream crowd at least) would prefer a concept like CXWORX™.
Not because they don’t like the current core – but because CXWORX™ is more up to date and simply more of what people requests in core training classes these days.

How ever, SATS is about to develop and change their core-concept…
Starting summer/fall-12, it will be 7 tracks instead of 8, two standing tracks, and there will be exertubes used as equipment.
So, I guess it will be pretty similar to CXWORX™ after all.

What I don’t appreciate as much with the current SATS Core is the music.
Simply because it’s [a bit] too mossy for my taste.
And in this release particular, the one good song – even though the CD and choreo notes says Rihanna and ‘We found love’ – it is definitely not Rihanna singing.
And you might remember what I think of (most) covers.

But overall – it was ok, and the participants appreciated the variation and some new moves after three long months, which is the most important thing, right?!

So, I’m all set with pre-choreo learning for another three months.
Which means more time to choreograph my own work and products.

BODYBALANCE™ prep…

I’ve taught the release of 56 for a while now.
And, I’m happy for that – since this time – it took a while to find the feel.

It was not love at first sight this round – as it often is – but the release have been growing from week to week, and class to class. And now I feel ready and confident to present it at quarterlies.

My favourite tracks are the sun salutation, the hip opener and the back track.
Track 2, 5 & 7.
This weekend I’m doing a quarterly in Halmstad – and next weekend I’m in Stockholm and Malmö.

Looking forward to some happy flow!

Quick TV-tips!

Tonight a new TVshow premieres on TV3.
SMASH!
I saw the pilot a couple of weeks ago, and I really liked it.
So if you feel like you might have a bit of same taste as me I warmly recommend it.
Haven’t had time to see more episodes – but I sure will, as soon as I’ve got some extra time left. It seemed promising for sure.
If you’re in to Broadway, dance, drama and Marilyn Monroe…!

Similarities and differences…

There are a lot of similarities in all kinds of industries I guess – whether the actual business is about.
Situations – behaviors – politics and so on.

I talked to a friend the other day that’s in the music business and she attended both the “Guldbagge galan” a couple of weeks ago (which is the swedish – and embarrassing lame – version of the Oscars award) and also the swedish Grammy award last week.

She just established that these events aren’t very nice, or fun events that you go for your enjoyment.
Nor is the atmosphere particularly inspiring.
While people are talking to you they are constantly looking over your shoulder to see if anyone “bigger” or more famous is about to show up, that they can move on to.

And if there’s an international guest – or big shot – coming, people are turning inside out to show themselves from the absolutely best, most charming, exaggerated outgoing, crazy and just awesome side.
All to get the most attention, to be remembered and… most popular. And maybe – discovered.
You know – like in high school sort of.

For her these kind of events are energy-consuming and fake – she’s a true artist and a beautifully sensitive and talented person.
But it’s kind of a necessary evil since it’s all about business and networking, and of course she’d love to get her own grammy someday if there’s an opportunity. But most preferably without the sucking up and the studied attention craving behavior.

This conversation made me think about my business..
We don’t really have any awards to compare with (no – that one in Gothenburgh doesn’t count yet)
Most comparable is probably the NIKE BLAST and Super Saturday, which are the biggest events in my industry, and the happenings of the year where everyone (almost) attends to network, doing business, catch up and connect. (Besides the main thing – train and get inspired)
But the difference is – these events ARE fun, for the people that attend it and for the people who works there. I’m sure I’m not the only one that think so.

Of course there are people with the same sort of behavior in my business – and of course there are instructors that take themselves a tiny bit to seriously, and honestly think they are rockstars instead…
But in general, people are not like that.

People are all over the place – but mostly out of endorphins and energy (and red bull) than of some other reason. It’s a happy place!

And that makes me once again feel so lucky to work with what I do – and to experience a lot of extraordinary moments together with HAPPY people! SWEATY people!

It’s dance – or training we work with… it’s an unpretentious, happy, positive, life-improving thing that’s about so much more than loosing weight these days. It’s a lifestyle – for people all over the world from different communities, social classes and industries.

At least for me – it’s like this, at this very moment.

Enjoy your day beautiful people! Hope your endorphin-doze will be filled up generously.
XOXO

Boosted!

A saturday in Stockholm felt like luxury this morning, even though it’s a work day.
My work for the day was to hold the Choreo Boost workshop at SATS for those of my awesome co-workers that wanted to join.

It’s a practical workshop that aims to dance instructors, and the purpose is just as it sounds; to boost the participants a bit when it comes to choreography.

Some easy tips and ideas to think about from my point of view, as an option to explore if you ever feel like you’re stuck or if you tend to put pressure on yourself when you’re about to create new choreo to your classes.

It was fun – and it was a group of positive, creative dance instructors that were open to try the things I suggested.
I’m lucky to work with people like these. 🙂 It makes my job just wonderful!

Next stop for Choreo Boost is in march at SATS Göteborg & Malmö

Two out of two…

Let me tell you about two of my (four) classes today.
Last night I got a text from my boss at Spårvagnshallarna that they were going to do a test of the fire alarm at the club. Today, between 7 am and 8 am – which meant – sometime during my BODYBALANCE™.
When I got there this morning I informed my participants that sometime during the class the fire alarm will go off. And that it will probably kill the feel in the class quite a bit, but let’s hope it doesn’t go off in the relaxation.
Well, the class went smoothly. No alarm.
And then – relaxation. And all of a sudden there is this noice starting.
Not the fire alarm though, but two of the windows up by the ceiling that opens up automatically. And it’s starting to snow on some of the peeps closest to the wall.
I kind of lost the group right there – and wrapped it up pretty quickly.

I don’t know about the fire alarm – but it’s good to know that the automatic window opener works, right?

Then, this afternoon it was time for my first Hot MOJO® class.
I was pretty stressed out when I got to the club – and in a very up speed-mode.
And since I’m notorious fast paced, it was sort of double up.
The result – I did the entire class in 45 minutes, instead of 55. I didn’t skip any poses – I just didn’t stopped in between them and I guess my instructions were delivered in high speed.
So really – they got a super intense workout since it was no stops or pauses anywhere. But they probably thought I skipped something. At least the people that thinks the duration of the session is the most important thing.
Well – I met a co-worker on the way from the club and he told me he did the same thing his first class.
As well as the instructor that taught the class after me said that she have to skip some poses to make it in time.
We are all different.
Anyway – next time, I’ll speak slower and have some breathing pauses in between.

How’s your day been?!

Choreo Boost @ SATS!

This upcoming weekend I’ve got another exciting job booked that I’m really looking forward to.
It’s a workshop at SATS – for the instructors (my awesome co-workers)
A choreography workshop – aimed at instructors that teaches dance classes.

I’ll do this workshop in Stockholm, Göteborg and Malmö and this will be the first of the three.
It’s also the first time I collaborate with my own material for SATS education, and I’m looking forward to a happy, positive and FUN day!
