Report from the Beatz-floor!

The Beatz 02 event yesterday went great.
Second time around, and it was just as fun as the first time.
We had some people coming back – and some new people joining.

One thing (among many) that I like about the Beatz-crowd is that they are entering this day with an open mind – and even though they might taking some class (or classes) that they don’t normally do – they are beeing just fine with it.

It’s when you decide in advance that “this is gonna be hard, to hard”
Well – of course it’s hard then, cause your state of mind is already set – and your entire body can feel it.

But yesterday I felt quite the opposite.
People were relaxed, curious, happy and positive – which makes it so much easier to learn and follow, and most of all enjoy. And I love to teach to that kind of people.
So, I had a lot of fun!

I taught one street class, as I teach it when I teach on gym, with music on going and a flow in the class.
And then I taught a lyrical-ish jazz class as a pure dance lesson. And ended that with a longer stretch since that was the last class of the day.

This is gonna be a recurring event, for sure. So if you have requests and wishes about classes and styles, email me or Robert.
And stay tuned on the facebook page, facebook.com/Beatzevents for news and upcoming info!

Many lovely ladies!

Latino Rob!

Awesome crowd!

Thank y’all for coming! ♥

Jan-u-ary!

You know I wrote the other day that this week was like a pre-week…before the mania kicks in.
I take that back, the mania is already here.
The gym is packed – the cardio area is crowded and (all) the classes are fully booked. It’s january people!
It’s these days our regulars growls and hisses over all the period-people that encroaches on the space.

But then – they also know that in a few months it’ll be back to normal which might make it easier to be patient.
And it’s FUN in january – with all the pulse and energy, all the peoples and the determination that’s in the air. Suck it all in and preserve it for a rainy day in early april when it doesn’t feel as natural and easy to train.

I was at SATS Odenplan yesterday – for some training of my own. Both in the gym and in the gf-studio.
This is how flexible you get from doing BODYBALANCE™ 😉

Happy training people!

4-3-2-1, BEATZ!

What’s up happy people?!

This week is like a pre-week before the gym-mania will kick in. You know what I mean right?! B.e a.w.a.r.e.

Since I’m not teaching any dance classes this week – or next week (hardly) I think you should join me and Robert for the Beatz 2.0 event this upcoming saturday.

I think there are a few spots left… just shoot an email to the admin-master himself, Robert, at beatz@robertsorensen.com if you wanna hook up with us for some dancing.

The schedule for the day:
Step or dance – Robert (yes, it can be either one – it depends of the mood of the day, lol)
Street – Åsa
Latin 2.0 – Roberto
Lyrical Jazz & Stretch – Åsa

The last class will end with a longer stretch to really lenghten out after a day of training.
So, join the vibe and feel the beatz beautiful people, and I hope to see you at the Mary Sq. saturday!

Happy New Year!!

It’s summary time.
I’ve seen several of my blog fellows doing all kinds of summarizing and if you’re a follower of mine you know I always do one as well, in the end of the year.

For me 2011 have been a year of a lot of hard work. By choice so no complains though.
Quite the opposite – I’m very happy and grateful that I’ve had the opportunity (and energy and health) to have done all these fun, and super varying work assignments.

The year started with the tripple BLASTS in the nordic countries. (Swe, Nor, Fin)
In Stockholm I opened the entire blast with an easy going streetjazz class on the big stage. A truly happy moment!

Thank you lovely Sara & Josefine for the best back up!

The weekends off have been very rare – I belive I had one during the spring, and a few during the fall. Which means a lot of travellling;  modules in Norway, convention and qw’s in Estonia, super qw in Orlando, Florida (in february = perfect timing for a constantly freezing Åsa) performance in Denmark… to mention a few.

And obviously – all over SWEDEN-land; Åre Workout, Topphälsa training camp, Blogger Boot Camp, Gerdahallen convention, EGO convention, Toppconvention, qw’s, modules, master classes, inspiration days, etc.
THANK YOU all sweet, wonderful people that contributed with your energy, sweat and hospitality.

And, of course, some NYC-visits.
Both shorter and then a longer over the summer.
For the first time in my entire life I took a break over the summer, five weeks off!! Weeks very well spent in a hot hot hot (and just wonderful) New York.
Some guest teaching – but most of all own training, chilling, living, laughing – and just enjoying!! I totally understand the concept of a not-working-at-all-or-almost-not-at-all-vaccation! LOL!

During the early summer my very own CD released. In collaboration with Swedebeat I compiled a hiphop-cd, which I think became really great, and I’ve used it on my classes, fo shizzle.

During the spring semester I also did something I’ve been wanting to do for a while..
I went to Poppius – and their main course in practical journalism.
It was a great education and I learned a lot.
And I have been writing more and more, professionally, after that.
One of my published pieces that I’m very proud of is the four page portait of Robert that was in Fitness Magazine # 8/11.

Stockholm in august.. it was a while ago since I experienced that! (gotta love swedish summer when it exist)
One of the highlights was definitly our performance at Stockholm Pride, in Kungsträdgården with 10 000 ppl in front of the stage.

The fall season brushed by – super quick – with SUPER SATURDAY as a kick off!

Time flies.. imagen when you were a kid and one year seemed like forever. Now it feels like… nothing, or just like 525 600 minutes (yeah – I know some musicals)

I just got back to Stockholm after a real Svensson-week at Cran Canaria. It was just awesome with some sun and light – even though I’m pretty sure that I will never go back there ever again. 🙂 (but, you should never say never – right?!)

A briefly summary (even if it may seem long in words) of an eventful year!

If I’m gonna share one private event it will definitly be our wedding in june.
A perfect summer day and a tiny, non traditional, very personal and relaxed wedding with the enitre inlet to Stockholm as a wiev. A happy day!

I’m looking forward to 2012!
A very merry HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! I wish you nothing but happiness, love, joy and genuine people around you!

Much love!
XOXO

Xmas refill…

Yesterday the very fun project ‘Femme Fatale’ started. That’s the class that I’m gonna team teach at the Nike Blast along with Åsa E, and Kristin from New York.
Me and Åsa met up in Stockholm yesterday and had our very first creative brainstorming session… And it’s gonna be a LOT of fun.
Don’t miss that class!!!

Then I taught my last dance class of 2011! Awesome crowd, awesome energy!
And now… I’m taking a little xmas break!!!

A very merry xmas to ALL of you beautiful people!
xoxo

The jamily grows…

The module of the weekend is over – and it’s been a weekend well spent with nine awesome and very sweet people from all over Scandinavia with completely different backgrounds.

There’s been a mix of people that tried BODYJAM for their very first time early friday morning, to real dedicated jam-addicts, from soon to be professional dancers to newbies within group fitness. I love it when it’s all kinds of people with different experiences, that creates a great dynamic.

They worked hard – in many ways, and it was a sweaty group (but happy I hope) that I captured with my camera this afternoon. Unfortunatley the flash was on so they got kind of zombie-eyes. Sorry 🙂

Well done team, keep it up!

One more work-weekend!

This weekend I’m doing an initial training module, in BODYJAM® here in Stockholm.
It’s my fourth BJ-module of 2011 – and it’s also my last module of the year.
It’s a lot of “last’s” these days, right?
The crowd is really international this time, besides the swedish peeps there are two danes and three norwegians.
The entire Nordics are covered, almost! It was actually supposed to come a finish gal as well – but didn’t.

First day is done – and tomorrow it’s time for the first presentation – and the second as well.
As always, I’m really excited to see what they’re bringing.
For me – it’s all about giving feedback and be supportive, nice – but fair and just all over the place to get them to dance their asses of.

Looking forward to a good day tomorrow.

Jazz finale!

SATS have launched their new website.
And as you know – if you’ve been following my blog (or been to my classes) they have been to several classes to shoot some pics and film clips.

Here’s the pic that represents jazz on SATS.

Borrowed from SATS website

Very jazzy if I may say so myself- and also, it really is equivalent to the standard picture of how jazz is – isn’t it?
Random that they actually managed to come to one of the very rare occasions where I taught a muscial routine, lol!

Tonight – is the last jazz class of the year.
Hope to see all my beautiful jazzdancers then – but if not – I’ll see you january 12th 2012!!

How ever – if you want to dance with me before that, come join us at Beatz Event january 7th!
Stay tuned at www.facebook.com/BeatzEvents

Grey-day-analysis! (it was a while ago…)

The QW 4 round is over and out. My last qw’s of 2011 took place yesterday in Göteborg.
The jam-crowd were off the hook, awesome!
And the balance-crowd were really skilled, and the very most of them were also super sweet, open and vibrant.

Then it was a small click of people that put my brain office to work for real.
Yeaaaah – I can feel some analytical coming up… so you might as well just stop reading if you’re not into that!

I’ve chose to work with what I do for many reasons, and one of all the things I love is that I get to surround myself with happy, positive, outgoing people that also are in this business cause they are passionated about it.

I know that I don’t do super important things that affects the world in the same way as the people that’s in the army and are willing to die to protect their country, or the people that spend their life to find a cure for horrible diseases, or the hero-people that becomes fire fighters.. to mention a few. The list can go on forever with examples of heroic people in different ways, but I think you get my point.

I try to help to make the world a better place in the tiny ways I can, like giving  money to charity, giving clothes to the homeless help organizations and by just being there for people around me if and when they need me.

And, I’m happy and grateful that I get to spend my everyday life in a happy, unpretentious, safe and really positive environment.

And the word unpretentious stands for a quality I appreciate a lot in people.
For me – the meaning of it is: not to take things, or oneself, to seriously – and to see the fun in tiny things, and to be able to enjoy the moment even though it’s not necessary an officially grand moment.

And once again – for me – it is not equal to taking the easy way out or not putting any efforts into things you want to acchieve.

For example:
If I have an initial training, I expect the participants to make the most out of the weekend, and to work really hard.
To put all their effort and energy they can into it, simply: to do their very best.
So, yes – I want them to take it seriously in that way, but it’s more out of respect for them self and to get value for the money, time and energy they are spending – along wih the fact that I believe they will feel better about them self, rather than if they aren’t even trying.

But at the same time – I want them to see the big picture.
It’s “only” dance or training… and it’s a good thing.
So while working hard – why not have fun at the same time?! And don’t be afraid to make mistakes.
Nothing will break – no one will die if we make a mistake.
And to just have an open mind – and open attitude and take joy in that we’re able to spend hours and days of doing the things we love so much.

If we’re getting stressed out by a difficult move or pose, or a not-super-cool-song – if that’s our stress.. then we have a great life. Fo shizzle.

So why DO you wanna attend an activity or education or session that you have chosen for your self with an attitude that everything is wrong – right from the start? With out not want to say hello, return a smile or even eye contact? Or share your opinion as if you’re in an angry argue?!

Bad days are allowed – but bad attitudes are not – if I get to say.

So the biggest THANK YOU and lots of LOVE and respect to all of the people that make my life GREAT!

The people I know and the people that just are brushing by in a quick meeting… all of you have an impact and I’m so happy for all the positive, happy and sparkling energy that exists in our business.
It will outlive the few negative vibes that will pass by every now and then.

I know some of you might call me naive – but I’ve said it before: I rather be naive than cynical and bitter – and I hope I stay like that still when I’m really really old, and doing my yoga on the roof top. Cause – yeah – by then I will have a roof top. 🙂

The Blasting continues…

February is the month for Nike Nordic.
All three Nike Blasts are lined up the weekends after each others.
2012 I’ll present in Stockholm and in Helsinki, Finland.

I’ve been to Nike Finland several times, I think this will be the 6th time. And it’s always a pleasure. I’m doing a whole bunch of classes there:

AfHo – as I’m presenting in Stockholm the week before.
A funky fusion with Afro & House as the strongest influences.

Sassy Jazz – A dance class with the roots in the traditional jazz technique, with a show dance-twist on it. Inflenced as well from contemporary, musicals and mtv. Lights, camera & action!

Pilates/Core  – Traditional pilates on a matt and/or functional core exercises that build your strengt from the inside and out. A great complement to dance classes for example. Improve your technique within other way of training by having a great core stability.

BODYJAM®60-team with the Funky Fin; Kimmo!

And finally, I’m doing a choreography workshop. How to experiment with pretty simple moves within different styles, and how to use the music at its most. Sort of!

So, all my finish (and nearby) friends – hurry up to register – and I hope to see you feb 11th 2012!

Here’s me and awesome Eddie from the last year’s Nike Blast Helsinki!!
